The City of Cushing is Payne County’s second largest city and is known as the Pipeline Crossroads Capital of the World. We have rich history in the oil storage industry. Cushing is within 30 minutes of Big 12 Conference member Oklahoma State University and is ideally situated within an hour of Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

The City of Cushing is seeking an individual to lead an interdisciplinary team with broad responsibilities. Department activities include the planning, design, and construction of the municipal capital improvement program for streets, water and wastewater utilities, and a wide variety of public facilities. Responsibilities include the maintenance of streets and potable and waste water utilities and we also own and operate our own power production plant.

The successful candidate will have expert level knowledge in management theories, principles and techniques, and the organization and administration of public works agencies. In addition, the successful candidate will possess strong oral and written communication skills, be skilled in building and maintaining effective working relationships with government officials and special interest groups.  The candidate must be able to resolve conflict and build consensus where there are differing opinions and interests, have a strong history of developing and implementing new programs or services to increase operational efficiencies, and the ability to lead a team of professional staff in delivering excellent services to the community we serve.

Desired Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering, Environmental Science or a closely related field. In addition, candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in the planning, construction, maintenance, or operations of public facilities, utilities, or transportations systems. At least three years of this experience must have been at a managerial level and must have included responsibility for supervising professional level staff. Registration as a Professional Engineer is highly desirable.

Cushing Police and Fire recently moved into a state of the art public safety center. Cushing is a diverse community of approximately 7,853 ideally situated less than 1 hour from Oklahoma City and Tulsa. We are also within 30 minutes of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

Salaries are negotiable for CLEET certified candidates, up to $36,047.87 based on training and experience. Both certified and non-certified candidates are encouraged to apply.

Cushing Officers are now allowed to reside within 35 minutes of city limits. Officers who successfully complete the FTO Program and reside within 15 minutes of city limits are eligible to participate in the take home vehicle program.

The City of Cushing is now accepting applications for an Journeyman Lineman or Apprentice Lineman to work under the supervision of the Electric Superintendent and Line Supervisor. 

Applicant must be skilled in the construction and maintenance of high voltage and low voltage electric line’s, overhead and underground to include installing and removal of electric poles, transformers, insulators and associated equipment etc. See Job Description.

Must have working knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in the electrical field; working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; Considerable knowledge of the principals of electrical theory as applied to electrical circuits and wiring diagrams and the ability to apply this knowledge to working situations.

Journey Lineman Application



The successful candidate will be able to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operate a variety of equipment in the construction, operation and repair, maintenance and replacement of city street, alleys and drainage rights-of-ways. They should have the ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public and the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.  The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.

The successful candidate will have a High School diploma or GED equivalent.  They must have a valid State Driver's license and a Class “B” CDL certification with air brake endorsement, or ability to obtain one within the six (6) month probationary period and have a sufficient driving record for City's insurance carrier.
